ABOUT

Hey friend! I'm Makeda Mutema-Newton (pronounced Muh-Kay-Duh) and I'm here to help you break free from your impulse shopping and cultivate better spending habits.

I was an impulse shopper from 2005-2016.

I was in Macy's every Wednesday (sale day) buying items that I didn't need.

I was in love with QVC filling my kitchen with (every) Temp-tations product.

I was triggered by every email with a discount (hello 40% off!).

Eventually, my pesky habit got the best of me and caused my family and me to lose the home that we were renting.

My lack of self-control caused a lack of responsibility.

During the next two-and-a-half years, we lived with my in-laws and had no choice but to live minimally (because everything was in storage) and learn to be satisfied.

I was on a journey of experiencing and embracing contentment.

Losing our home was traumatic, but I'm grateful for the experience and journey.

My reason for becoming your coach? A little saying...

"Whatever you can't rest from, you're a slave to."

I'm here to teach you how to take back control of your impulses.

To give you the tools to become the better version of yourself - curb your impulse shopping habit, restore your self-control, and shop more intentionally and in alignment with your values.

My Approach

Breaking free from your impulse spending habit begins with my Roadmap to Recovery Method where you become increasingly self-aware at every step.

The adage is true - old habits die hard - because it's difficult to stop doing things that you've been doing for a long time. But if you're ready to put in the work, victory is on the other side.

  • REVIEW YOUR CUES - Learn about cues, their role in your habits, and how to manage them to produce new behaviour modification and reversal.

  • RECOGNIZE YOUR TRIGGERS - Learn the history of impulse shopping, tricks that retailers use, and your impulse shopping triggers.

  • RESET YOUR HABITS - Learn the science behind habits and how they're formed, creating new ones, and responding to the old ones.

  • RESTORE YOUR SELF-CONTROL - Learn tools to curb your impulse spending, restoring your self-control, and as a result, your self-confidence.

Your spending habits are simply habits. You have the power to change them.

Let's invest in your personal development.
